Xining, located on the eastern edge of Qinghai-Tibet Plateau and the upper reaches of Huangshui River, is the capital city of Qinghai Province, northwestern China. It is the local centre of politics, economics, culture, education, technology, transportation and communication. With an average altitude of over 2,200 meters, Xining covers an area of 7,373 square kilometers and has a population of 2.2 million. As a typical city of migrants, Xining possesses several peoples and religions co-existing harmoniously. Buddhism, Islam, Christianity and Catholicism, Taoism as well as Tibetan Buddhism have the most significant influence. Xining is on the passage of the Silk Road and the Tang-Tibet Ancient Road. It has been a military stronghold and transportation hub since ancient China. So it was called "the throat of Qinghai and Tibet". Until now, it is still the only road by which to enter the hinterland of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
Chengdu is located in the center of Sichuan Basin, southwest of China. It’s the capital city of Sichuan Province, regarded as the most important finance, science and technology center as well as the transportation and communication hub in Western China. Chengdu takes the leading position in the establishment of a market economic system. As early as more than four thousand years ago in the pre-historical Bronze Age, Jinsha Culture was established within this region.
