Lhasa and Namtso - the holy city and lake 6-Day City Trip
Lhasa, with a history of over 1,300 years, is the capital city of Tibet. It situated in the southeastern part of Tibet, on north shore of the Lhasa River, a branch of Brahmaputra. Lhasa city covers an area of nearly 30,000 square kilometers with a population of 515,300. "Lhasa" means "the holy place" or "Buddha" in Tibetan, and it has long been the political, economical, cultural, and religious center of Tibet. In 641 AD, Princess Wencheng suggested filling up the lake with earth carried by white goats for a temple. So people called the temple “Resa” (means “on goats’ backs” in Tibetan language). At last, Resa was translated to Lhasa. Lhasa is, true to its name, a “sacred place”. The splendid and magnificent Potala Palace is the symbol of the theocracy supreme power. As one of the highest cities in the world, Lhasa is the most attractive city as well as hub for tourists to Tibet. Namtso, or Namco, located in central Tibet, is a mountain lake on the border between Damxung County of Lhasa and Baingoin County of Nagqu. It is not only the second biggest lake in Tibet, but also one of the three holy lakes that called the Heaven Lake.
