Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a non-profit organization engaged in wildlife research, captive breeding, conservation education, and educational tourism. Located on the Axe Hill that is 10 kilometers north of Chengdu, this 600-acre research station and breeding ground has been in operation since the year of 1987, with only six giant pandas rescued from the wild. Now the number of pandas has increased much under the careful rearing from all keepers and researchers. Wenshu Monastery houses some 300 Buddha statues of various materials including iron, bronze, stone, wood, and jade. These masterworks of art generated from ancient and contemporary China, serve as a testimony to its friendly exchanges with the world. Kuan Zhai Alley is composed of wide alley and narrow alley, in which there are a lot of traditional Siheyuan (courtyards). It is one of the hottest tourist destinations in Chengdu that well worth a visit.
