Dujiangyan Irrigation System & Mt.Qingchengshan 1 Day Excursion
Dujiangyan Irrigation System is located about 70 km west to Chengdu. This great Irrigation System, built over 2,250 years ago, was used to irrigate the Chengdu Plain. It is located in the middle part of Minjiang River, the largest tributary of Yangtze River. So far, it is the only retained grand water conservancy project featured with no dam for diversion. Until now, Dujiangyan Irrigation System still effectively put the flooding waters under control. It controls the waters of the Minjiang River and distributes it to the fertile farmland of the Chengdu plain which has been cultivated for more than 2000 years. Enlisted as a UNESCO world heritage in 2000, Dujiangyan Irrigation System has been known as "the world's earliest water culture" and a famous tourist destination in Sichuan. Mt. Qingcheng, or Qingqingshan Mountain, is situated in the southwest of the Dujiangyan City. As one of the birth lands of Chinese Taoist culture, it is also an extraordinary fascinating and intriguing scenic spot that is covered by luxuriant and verdant trees.
